New Canons.—The Synod elected three further canons, viz., the liev. J. A. Kempthorne, J. L, Kayll, and ‘E. H. Strong, as canons of St. Peter’s Cathedral. A Zionist's Tour.—Dr. Alexander Goldstein, who is touring the world in the interests of the Zionist movement, Sjdls from Sydney for New Zealand on Friday, after a successful mission in Australia.—A. and N.Z. Trains Held Up.— Trains were held up last evening when a waggon of a Soods train broke an axle at Topuni, nine miles south of Maungaturoto. Thief Pleads Destitution. —Alexander a youth, who pleaded guilty to faking into a butcher’s shop at s Menham and stealing £2 6s 7d, was committed for sentence at the Christchurch Police Court to-day.
