WHANGAREI

Rugby The leading team in the Whangarei competitions, Hikurangi, paid a visit to Dargaville on Saturday to play a friendly game against Tangawabine, which team is also leading in the Northern Wairoa competitions. Both teams were hitherto unbeaten this season, and the result of the game was as it should be, a scoreless draw. Tangawahine was superior in the forward division, but this advantage was nullified by the classiness of the, Hikurangi backs. Matene, the Maori All Black, and Clement, a North Auckland forward, were unavoidably absent

from the Tangawahine ranks, and undoubtedly made a considerable difference to the team as a whole, since Matene, particularly, :is playing better football than ever this year. “Bill” Rika, the Macri All Black forward, was in great nick, and together with his two brothers, Jim and Monday—who are about as good as their famous brother—put in great work for this team. Findlay, the Whangarei crack runner, played on the Hikurangi wing, and was undoubtedly the outstanding back on the day. He was well supported by Hamilton and Griffin, who would both make a name in better class football.

Young Biddles, a boy newly from the university, will undoubtedly make a mark in football circles, being both clever and fast, besides possessing a very pretty kick with either foot. On the whole, spectators were treated to a very fine exposition of the national game.
