King’s College Celebrations
REUNION DINNER CHAPEL MEMORIAL SERVICE rpo all true sons of King’s College—what with the CollegeGrammar Rugby match, the reunion dinner, the annual chapel service, and a visit to the old college, now King’s School, Remuera —the week-end has been a full one. The dinner, which was held after the Rugby match, was a great success. Mr. T. H. Dawson, retiring president of the Old Boys’ Association, welcomed Canon Archdall as the new head of the college and wished him all success. HOPE FOR THE FUTURE In reply, Canon Archdall spoke of school tradition and hopefulness as the greatest springs of human life. On such an occasion, continued Canon Archdall, they all had their memories, but out of memories sprang hope. He wished with the aid of all old boys to make King’s College a great school in every sense of the word. Numerous other toasts were also honoured. Students and old pupils, who were present in large numbers in the beautiful new memorial chapel at King's for the annual service yesterday morning, saw first the lighting of the panel as homage to the fallen in the war. ON LOYALTY The sermon preached by the headmaster, Canon Archdall, extolled the virtue of loyalty to school and to ideals. Loyalty was needed to-day to lead the world from selfishness by -centring life on institutions and vows. From loyalty to school there would spring loyalty to the best ideals in life, and supreme among them the ideal made concrete in the life of Christ. That was something more than a negative battle against the gross sins and vulgarities of the world. It was something infinitely more elevating. P n Sunday afternoon old boys visited King’s School, Remuera, which in the days of some of the visitors was Kings College. They were the guests ot the headmaster, the Rev. J. G T Castle.
