DARGAVILLE RACING CLUB

Fixing the date for the next race meeting was the principal business before the last meeting of the Dargaville Racing Club. The chair was occupied by Mr. F. J. Dargaville, and others present were: Messrs. D. L. Ross , A. J. Finch, H. Kimber, W. Lee, C. Ball, F. O. Peat, C. S. Rush. Waipa Racing Club objected to the allocation of December 15 and 17 to Dargaville, and a lengthy discussion followed, and it was finally decided to agree to the Waipa Club’s request to change the dates and apply to the dates committee for Saturday, January 7, and Monday, January 9, for the next race meeting.

It was decided to support a remit from the Country Clubs’ Association to the Government asking for substantial relief for country clubs from the present heavy taxation imposed, and also to ask the Prime Minister as member for the district to support the request. The chairman gave notice of motion of his intention to move at the annual meeting that the annual subscription be raised from one guinea to one and a-half guineas. In giving notice, the chairman said that the Dargaville Racing Club’s membership was the cheapest in the Dominion and members now were geting £2 10s worth of privileges for the sum of one guinea.
