HUNTLY CITIZENS’ BALL

Quite the best ever held in the Lower Waikato, was the verdict given by all present at the Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ Ball held at Huntly on Friday in the new Town Hall. The animated scene, enhanced by the brilliant lighting and lovely frocking, was one that will live long in the memories of those privileged to be present. The chairman of the Town Hoard, Mr. W. C. E. George, and Mrs. George, headed the official partners in the grand march. Messrs. Roy Sheeran (senior councillor) and John Hughes, joint secretaries, backed by a strong committee, left no stone unturned to ensure a pleasant night to all patrons, and to their efforts are principally due the undoubted success of the ball. A dainty supper under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. T. Stevenson was served. Peden’s band of six instruments rendered a pleasing selection of popular dance music. Messrs. A. Carlton, Roy Sheeran an Thos. Harris officiated as M.C.’s. Miss Gladys Baker, of Huntly South, was chosen ’‘Belle of the Ball,” a popular and merited decision.
