WAIUKU TOWN BOARD
A special meeting of the Waiuku Town Board was held on Monday night for the purpose of dealing with the estimated receipts and expenditure for 1927-28, when all the members were present. The estimated receipts amounted to £4,153 9s and expenditure to £3,065 8s sd, leaving a credit balance of approximately £I,OBB that would be available for public works. After discussion it was decided to allocate £SO to finish tar-sealing King Street (there being a considerable amount of material on hand for that purpose'), £350 to finish tar-sealing Queen Street from the George Street boundary, £SO for grading water tables, and the balance for general maintenance work.
The chairman reported that he had, together with Messrs. J. Andrew and O. Ridgley, waited upon Mr. Blomfield in reference to obtaining a water supply for the town from his springs. Mr. Blomfield was quite agreeable for the board to utilise his springs subject to the following conditions:—(l) That he was to have sufficient water for farming purposes, and to secure this it would be necessary to erect a reservoir at the back of his house to store sufficient water for his use; (2) the board not to take more land for a catchment areea than was absolutely necessary, and suggested that two acres be the maximum; (3) the proposed site for the reervoir, as it would make too much traffic on his farm, and suggested it be put nearer the road; (4) the board to submit a proposal for compensation and pay all expenses attached to the undertaking. After a long discussion it was decided to go further into the matter. Mr. A. Makgill’s application for permission to erect a petrol pump on the kerbside in Queen Street was considered, and it was resolved that no pumps be allowed on Queen Street from the junction of King; Street to Court Street. It was also resolved that lessees of pumps, before a licence is granted to use same, be compelled to take out a comprehensive accident policy of £I,OOO, indemnifying the board against any claim for accident that may arise from the use of same. The agreement between the Franklin Power Board and the town board b Power Board and the Town Board relative to street lighting was agreed to.
