The earliest authenticated sea fight Is said to have been that between the Corinthians and the Corcyreans, in which the former conquered—664 B.C. In Gilsland, near the Northumberland ( England) border, are lonely farm houses, where the kitchen fires, fed solely with turf or peat, have not been allowed to go out for at least two hundred years.
