Fewer Divorces in Turkey
ti T*f Prosecutor_ General of Constantinople reports that divorce has ttreatlv diminished since Turkey adopted legal proceedings for divorce under the new modermsed civil code in November of Before the new law came into force there were, he says, at the lowest 100 divorces a week among the million or so xiopulaAion of the city, whereas only *l° sentences of definite divorce have been pronounced since. He states that the courts have given LoO verdicts of “temporary separation,” and that these have proved very satisfactory. as it has been found that the separated Turkish couples often come together again before the delay fixed by the courts elapses.
