The Log Book

PERSONAL. —Mr. D. Luckett, having returned from holidays, has joined the Waipori as second officer, relieving the acting-second officer, Mr. Hewitt, for holidays.

Mr. C. G. Welch has joined the Kurow as third officer in place*of Mr. A. Haslam, who has joined the Manuka in a similar capacity. Captain Elders has succeeded Captain A. R. Stewart in command of the Waipiata. Captain Arnold, of the Kittawa, has proceeded on sick leave, being relieved by Captain J. Ritchie, as actingmaster.

Captain Todd has succeeded Captain E. Harris as master of the Waiotapu. Mr. H. S. Collier has joined the Kaitoke as chief officer, and Mr. T. E. Bevan has taken his place as chief officer of the Waipori. Mr. H. Abernethy, third officer of the Waipori, has been appointed to the Kaitoke in a similar capacity, relieving Mr. I. L. Russell, who has joined the Waipori as third officer. i The Waitomo has recently been recommissioned at Port Chalmers, and has the following officers: Captain A. R. Stewart; chief officer, Mr. E. H. Willson: second, Mr. J. S. Beatson; third, Mr. E. R. Pate.

Mr. G. D. Fraser has been temporarily appointed chief officer of the Katoa.

Mr. G. A. Herbert has joined the Wahine as. second officer, in place of Mr. J. Delaney. Mr. A. Bond has signed on as chief engineer of the Ngapuhi. MAUNGANUI AT VANCOUVER.— Cable advice received by, the Union Company states that the R.M.S. Maunganui arrived at Vancouver at 3 p.m. last Saturday, and is to leave on Wednesday on her return trip to Sydney, via Honolulu, Suva and Auckland. She is due here on July 18 and at Sydney on July 23. WAIPAHI FOR COOK ISLANDS.— The Union Company advises that the fruit steamer Waipahi will leave Auckland on Thursday next for Rarotonga, Mangaia and Aitiitaki. She will also call at Mauke to land shooks.

KAIWARRA SAILING. Taking mails and cargo the Union Company is dispatching the steamer Kaiwarra at 5 p.m. to-day for Newcastle. She will load at the coal port fpr New Zealand again.

SYDN EY-FIJI CARGO SERVICE.— The Union Company has been advised that the cargo steamer Waiotapu has been fixed to leave,Sydney on July 12 for Fiji, taking cargo for Tonga and Samoa for transhipment to the Tofua at Suva.

CORINTHIC COMPLETING. At present completing her loading at Wellington, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the liner Corintliic will leave at daybreak on Thursday for Southampton and London via. Panama.

WAITEMATA ARRIVING. —Due to arrive at Auckland on July 16 from Pacific Coast ports, the Union Company advises that the trans-Pacific cargo steamer Waiteraata will, after discharge at this port, proceed to Napier, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney to complete.

MATATUA REPORTS. —According to a radio message received by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, the steamer Matatua will arrive at Auckland on July 1 from Liverpool. The vessel is bringing cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton ar.d Dunedin. Captain Greene still retains command of the Matatua. L. D. Nathan and Company are the local agents.

MAMARI AT W ELLINGTON. —To complete her discharge of London cargo, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer-Mamari arrived at Wellington yesterday from Lyttelton. From Wellington the vessel will proceed to Oamaru, Timaru, New Plymouth, and then back to Wellington to load for Home. She is expected to clear Wellington finally on July 9 for London via Montevideo and Teneriffe. PORT DUNEDIN FROM LONDON. —An arrival at Wellington on Saturday was the C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Dunedin from London with general cargo for discharge at Wellington, Auckland and Napier. She is to leave Wellington on Wednesday for Auckland and arrives here next Friday. Heather, Roberton and Company will be the local agents. PORT HUNTER COMlNG.—Confirmation has been received by Heather, Roberton and Company that the C. and D. Line steamer Port Hunter sailed from Liverpool on Wednesday last, June 22, with general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is expected at this port on August 2. PORT PiRIE AT GISBORNE.— -To commence loading for Home, the C. and D. Line steamer Port Pirie arrived at Gisborne on Sunday from Port Kembla. She will later fill up at Napier, Lyttelton, Wanganui and Wellington, sailing finally from the latter port on July 15 for London via St. Vincent. MATAKANA TO LOAD. —Due at Plymouth to-day from Brisbane, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s steamer Matakana will later proceed to Wellington, Timaru and Port Chalmers to complete. She is scheduled to clear the Otago port on July 24 for London via Montevideo and Tencriffe. CAMBRIDGE LEAVES PANAMA.— News has been receiyed by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Federal steamer Cambridge, eri route from Liverpool to New Zealand ports, arrived at Panama on June 3 9 and sailed again o.n June 21 for Auckland, where she is due on July 11. RARANGA REPORTED.—Homeward bound from New Zealand, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamier Raranga is reported to have cleared Montevideo last Thursday. The vessel loaded in New Zealand and sailed from Wellington on May 3 for London via Montevideo and Teneriffe. MAIMYO FROM NEW YORK.— Bringing general cargo from New York for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, the C. and D. Line’s chartered steamer Maimyo, which is due here about Thursday, has not yet reported her arrival time. The Farmers! Co-op. Auctioneering Company will be the local agents. HAUTURU CLEARED BALBOA.— The Northern Company has received advice that the new auxiliary schooner Plauturu, en route froam Glasgow to Auckland on her maiden voyage, cleared Balboa on June 19. The vessel has so far averaged about seven knots and is expected to reach Auckland about July 28. HORORATA AT COLON.— The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Hororata, which sailed from London for Suva, Wellington and Auckland on June 3, is reported to have reached Colon last Thursday. The vessel is duo at Wellington about July 18 and at Auckland a week later. ,m94o£, DIAN PIONEER at WELLINGTON.—The local branch of the Canadian Government Mercantile Marine advises that the Canadian Pioneer arrived at Wellington late last night from Dunedin en route to Auckland. . 1 e } s expected to sail from there tonight or to-morrow morning and will arrive at Auckland on Thursday. The Rarawa, which arrived yesterday morning from New Plymouth, -sails again on the return trip at 3 p.m. today, and will arrive back at Oitchunga at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Anchor Line steamer Kaitoa is due at Onehunga on Wednesday to load for Nelson, Picton, and West Coast ports. The Arapawa is expected at Onehunga next Wednesday with a load of coal from Westport. She is scheduled to sail the next day for Wanganui. The Ngatiawa arrived this morning from Hokianga. She is scheduled to sail again this afternoon at four o’clock for Raglan, Kawhia. and Port Waikato, and is due back again at 6 a.m. on Wednesday. The 1 Ohinemuri is expected at Oriehtrnga any time now from Whangape, witl. a cargo of timber, from the company's mills.
