MOTOR-VAN TAKES WILD PLUNGE
CAR LEAVES ROAD FALLS EIGHTY FEET—DRIVER BADLY INJURED
(Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, To-day.
Horace Alabaster, milk vendor, of Durie Hill, met with a serious accident on Durie Hill this morning through a motor delivery car going over a bank a distance of from 70 to 80 feet. Alabaster was driving with his son toward the city, and was on the roper side of the road. At a sharp bend, overlooking Durie Vale, the car turned at almost right angles to the road and bounded over a steep bank, tore through a fence, and after turning over several times eventually jumped a ledge about seven feet high and landed a wreck on Durie Vale Road, almost opposite some residences, which are close to the road.
During the descent Alabaster’s son was thrown out and escaped injury, but the father was badly injured. He had a shoulder and arm broken, beside a number of ribs, and was badly cut and bruised.
The police were sent for and the injured man conveyed as speedily as possible to the hospital.
