BRITISH FILMMAKERS BUSY
PROTECTIVE LEGISLATION ACTIVITY AND OPTIMISM (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. With the possibility of protective legislation for New Zealand films, a summary of the manner in which the English Bill has been received is topical. The trade bulletin received by H.M. Trade Commissioner mentions this measure and said that at the present time this Bill is before a Standing Committee of the House of Commons, which is considering a very large number of amendments put forward from different quarters.
"In view of the amount of work involved in considering all the alterations suggested it says it appears unlikely that the Bill will pass through the necessary stages with any great rapidity. The reception accorded to the Government’s proposals has been mixed.
“Meanwhile a spirit of optimism and activity has been awakened among film producers, and a number of plans are proposed likely to lead to a considerable increase in the production of British pictures. The old established firms in the industry are making plans for future production with renewed hope of finding a successful market, while various schemes are in the air for the promotion of new producing concerns.”
