FLAXMILLING INDUSTRY
POSITION DISCUSSED ASSOCIATION MEETS Overhead port charges was one of the questions discussed by the annual meeting the Northern Flaxmillers’ Ascsoiationheld in Auckland yesterday, when Mr. E. L. Broad presided. One speaker said that the port charges had been increased in the last few months at a time when the market was passing through a critical phase. It was decided to communicate with the New Zealand Flaxmillers’ Association and arrange, if possible, a scheme of mutual insurance to cover the Dominion. It was mentioned that a case under the Fisheries Act had been decided recently against a miller operating on the banks of the Rangitaiki River. With a view of getting the industry exempted from the provision against pollution, it was decided to communicate with the Marine Department. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. Broad; secretary, Mr. E. T. Frost; executive, the president, secretary and Messrs. F. Douglas, C. W. Ingram and W. Burquist.
