BIRTHRATE FOR 1926 LOWEST EVER RECORDED

DEATH-RATE INCREASE DUE TO INFLUENZA Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. The Health Department reports that the birth rate for 1926 was the lowest ever recorded in the Dominion, 28,473 births being registered, against 28,153 in 1925. The 1926 rate represents 21.1)5 per thousand of population, and that for 1925 was 21.17. The number of deaths registered was 11,819 as against 11,026 for the previous year, an increase of about half per cent., attributed principally to influenza and whooping cough.
