MAJESTIC

NEW ZEALAND SEMI-FINALISTS A big event will take place at the Majestic to-night when the sixteen semi-finalists of the “Miss New Zealand 1927” film star contest will appear on the stage. Every evening patron has one vote to record his or her selection of “Miss Auckland” and her “Maid of Honour.” The 16 semifinalists will be presented in a setting which for sheer beauty and artistic lighting effects is unequalled in Auckland. The girls typify the youth and beauty of the city, and it will be hard to single out one from such a bevy of frej%, young and attractive girls. The supporting programme will include the usual Topical Budgets and fine scenic and interest films which are a feature of the Majestic programme, and a musical entertainment by the All Soloists Orchestra. A very fine trombone solo, entitled “O, Star of Eve,” will be played by one of the leading trombone players in New Zealand. The chief picture attraction of -the evening is “The Cave Man,” which is a merry comedy-drama, with a brilliant cast, perfectly directed. It is the film version of the popular Gilette Burgess story, and has as its stars Matf Moore and Marie Prevost. Miss Prevost plays Myra Gaylord, a beautiful and bored society girl in search of a thrill. Matt Moore, as Mike Smagg, a coal heaver, provides the thrill when she begins to train him for a social career. Pie becomes a social lion in spite of his crude ways, which are attributed to his eccentricity, and Myra realises that she has fallen in love with him. When he is turned down by a rich young flapper, he turns back to his old friends, who taunt him to fury. It is then he realises it is Myra he loves and he comes back to tell her* she has ruined his life and to marry her. John Patrick. Myrna Loy, Phyllis Haver -and Hedda Hopper are included in the cast.
