MEN’S HOCKEY
SOMERVILLE MEET ST. LUKES KEEN CONTESTS EXPECTED Without a. doubt the chief mens hockey match for to-morrow will be the Somerville-St. Luke’s contest Last season the teams met three times. The first match St. Luke’s fell to Somerville, the second was a draw, and the last time they won. In the firs: round this season Somerville scored a victory over St. Luke’s of 3 to 0. The match to-morrow will be a light to a finish and both teams can be depends: upon to field greatly improved coni binations. St. Luke’s may suffer fror the loss of Foreman playing inski right, while H. Watts will not be avail able for Somerville. Somerville can be expected to pla up to its usual standard, disptayin creditable combination, while St. Lukes can be depended upon to display improved ferm, the front line especial! working better together and the back;, combining in a formidable defence. How the match will go is hard lo forecast. One thing is certain, however, it will be a fight to a finish, and good stickwork can be depended upo=i UNIVERSITY v. ARETA On the respective showings of the students and black jerseys last Saturday, to-morrow’s fixture should not be difficult to forecast. Working on the basis of Varsity’s handsome win against Wesley by seven to one,and Areta’s loss to Somerville to the tune of five to one, on paper the student? should secure an easy victory. But prophesies determined on the resulk of former wins and losses almost al ways prove to be erroneous and if University is to emerge from its coming struggle with Areta with colours flying the blue jerseys will have te exert themselves to their utmost. For some reason Areta was absolutely off colour last Saturday, and it was sheer ill-luck which prevented a good forward department from scoring. Wilkie was not up to form betwene the post? and let bast him easy shots which might have been saved by him on other occasions. Varsity’s good score was accumulated against Weslewhich fielded a much weakened eleven and there was little opposition, hence the students’ walk-over was not *
glorious victory. Varsity shoa in to-morrow’s encounter, but be by a small margin.
