BOWLING CLUBS’ ANNUAL MEETINGS

PONSONBY’S GOOD YEAR PONSONBY CLUB The annual meeting of the Ponsonby Bowling Club was held on Tuesday evening last. Mr. A. W. Bryant presided. The annual report showed that the last season had been successful in every way. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. R. A. Drummond: vicepresidents, Messrs. J. Torrance and R. S. Somervell; hon. secretary, Mr. H. J. Colebrook; hon. treasurer, Mr. D. M. Dougherty; committee, Messrs. F. Carbines, J. Conway, J. H. P. Allen and E. Farrow; selector, Mr. A. Parsons; hon. auditor, Mr. G. N. Baggett; delegates to Auckland Centre, Messrs. R. A. Drummond, H. J. Colebrook and A. Parsons; coach for first-year players, Mr. J. Conway; green superintendent, Mr. A. Parsons; assistant superintendent, Mr. J. Rolfe; club umpires, Messrs. J. Torrance, T. H. Chapman and E. Farrow. ELLERSLIE CLUB The annual meeting of the Ellerslie Bowling Club was also held on Tuesday evening. The annual report showed that the club was in a satisfactory financial position, although the club’s percentage in the pennant competition was slightly less than in the previous year. Following are the results of club contests: Championship singles, F. Osborne; runner-up, J. A. Godfrey; club fours, G. Westbrooke, H. K. McKenzie, F. Sykes, Jas. Taylor; handicap singles, F. Wood; runner-up, J. White; Labour Day fours, J. Christmas, W. Osborne, F. Osborne, T. Dickson; Anniversary Day pairs, J. Ryan, J. J. Toy. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. W. H. Flyger: vice-presi-dents, Messrs. F. Osborne, Jas. Taylor and J. J. Toy; hon. secretary, Mr. J. McKelvie; hon. treasurer, Mr. W. Williams; committee, Messrs. A. C. Hill, G. Westbrooke, J. White, J. H. Arthur, F. J. Sykes and W. Watson. TAKAPUNA CLUB The annual meeting of the Takapuna Club was held in the pavilion last Tuesday evening. The retiring president, Mr. J. W. Hayden, presided over a large gathering. Speaking in retrospect, Mr. Hayden referred to the excellent work done by many members in the making of the new green and building the fine new pavilion. The club’s finances were in a very much improved condition. The green warden, Mr. A. Hunt, had earned the club’s high appreciation of his untiring labour, which had resulted in providing a green which had stood the season’s play so well and had proved to have had such a true and splend d surface. Experts who had recently inspected the new green were of the opinion that it would be one of the best in the Auckland Province. Prizes; were presented to the winners of the various competitions. Champion singles, Mr. C. Cutler; run-ner-up, B. Codd; first-year champion, J. Robinson; handicap . singles, A. Price; percentage fours, Messrs. Walters, Kay, Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: President, Mr. G. 11. Mathews; vice-presidents, F. Audlev, P. Coulthard; committee, J. Hayden, F. A. Smith, A. Hooper, C. Cutler; match committee, G. Boulton, M. Galbraith, J. Brake; sole selector, G. Boulton: secretary and treasurer, N. Veale; club reporter. C. F. Perfect; auditor, F. J. Robertshaw; delegates to Centre, G. H. Mathews, F. Audley; coach, J. Brake; umpires, F. Audley, B. Codd, J. Brake, A. Hooper, J. Hayden. The new president, Mr. Mathews, spoke in glowing terms of the services rendered by the late president, Mr. J. Hayden. He had formulated and carried oat the scheme for equitable separation of the bowling, croquet and tennis clubs.

It was decided to again take part in the Pennant Competition with six rinks, percentage fours to be played through the season, senior and junior championship singles. A prize for the latter was promised by Mr. J. Hayden. Club Pairs and Marine Pennant, it was decided not to enter a champion rink in the Centre’s Competition. A resolution was passed urging the importance of the Daylight Saving Bill.
