TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH

His Worship the Mayor, Mr. L. G. Armstrong, presided over the fortnightly meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council on Monday evening. There were present: Mesers. G. Spinley (Deputy-Mayor), C. A. Reilly, J. C. Montefiore, J. ,W. North, J. Marshall, G. Gifford, C. Bygrave, and W. Swain. The Works Committee recommended the council to raise the 10 per cent additional loan on the £ 40,000 street improvement loan, in order that the committee may form its policy for further work; also that the Finance Committee be authorised to negotiate with the A.M.P. Society for the loan. A donation to the funds of the Workers’ Educational Association (Waikato branch) was asked for, and it was agreed to vote £ 5 ss. The Mayor reported that at the last meeting of the local bodies’ delegatesconcerned in the proposed representation opposing the Electoral Boundaries Commission’s findings, it had been proposed to send representatives to Wellington to state the case. It was later ascertained that deputations would not be received by the commissioners. Writing therefore had to be resorted to. Councillor Reilly stated that the Fire Board would not take over the old hand-reel. The new hose now in the hands of the council would be taken over next year. Arrangements would probably be made for paying the borough for the plant and equipment quarterly.
