Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday. 'JJ'EW Zealand won the toss. The weather and the wicket were perfect, and the crowd numbered 3,000. The visitors played most sparkling cricket. Blunt and Dempster

rattled on 62 in half an hour. The latter’s score included a sixer and five fours. Associated with Page, Blunt saw 100 on the score-board in an hour. Blunt was twice missed, at point and

in the slips, but he, in his busiest fashion, reaching the century in 95 minutes. The partnership yielded 122 in 65 minutes. Page was out with a brilliant catch in the slips, and the lunch-time score was two for 213—eloquent testimony of the aggressiveness of the batsmen. The most forceful display of the day was Blunt and Lowry’s addition of 154 in 75 minutes. Blunt simply flogged the bowling; he hit one six and 33 fours in three hours. The innings almost averaged two run's a minute. Rain caused an early drawing of stumps. Details: NEW ZEALAND First Innings R. C. Blunt, c Bruce, b Maconachie 195 C. S. Dempster, b Hetherton . . 29 M.
