HIGHWAYS SCHEME
EFFECT ON DAIRY FARMERS ALTERATION VETOED (.Special to TUE SUN. l ROTORUA. Wednesday. The question of roads was brought forward by Mr. McDonald at the National Dairy. Association conference to-day. He said that the highways scheme had proved highly successful so far as it went, but that no revenue was available to give assistance to producers on roads which also carried a great deal of motor traffic.
A suggestion that highways si ould contribute more to by-roads was not received unanimously, several speakers being of the opinion that the highways had gone far enough, and increases would only rebound on the farmers as well as on motorists, in 'centres which provided most of the money. Other speakers considered that the suggestion was overlapping the county councils, and it was heavily negatived.
