WANGANUI COUNCIL CUTS SALARIES

EMPLOYEES INDIGNANT C From Our Own Correspondent.') WANGANUI, Wednesday. There was considerable indignation among certain members of the Wanganui City Council staff this morning over the final decision arrived at last night by the members of the newlyelected progressive party to make cuts in salaries ranging from £SO down to £l2. One employee says he considers the cuts most unfair. If any cut was necessary it should have been on the 10 per cent, basis. It simply meant that in order to try and redeem election pledges the heads of various departments have to bear the brunt and make a sacrifice, while the rate, instead of being reduced by 2d as promised, will remain at lOd on the unimproved value. No decision was arrived at last night regarding the engineer’s salary, which it was proposed to reduce by £IOO.
