BRILLIANT SPECTACLE

SEMI-FINALISTS AT REGENT Preparations for the personal appearance on the Regent Theatre stage to-morrow evening of the semifinalists in the “Miss New Zealand 1927” screen quest, are now complete, and the spectacle presented by the girls in the Regent’s brilliant setting promises to outrival that upon which all Auckland has feasted its eyes during the gorgeous fashion parade this week. Voting will take place in the theatre during the week, and it will be readily understood why it is essential that, in fairness to the girls themselves and those who are asked to vote upon them for the selection of “Miss Auckland” and her Maid of Honour, they should appear under the most favourable circumstances obtainable. In the “Theatre Magnificent” the lighting and general scenic effects are unique so far as Australasia is concerned, and this, coupled with the orchestra under the dirpetion of Maurice Guttridge, ensures all stage presentations being offlered on a scale even better than any that could be seen in a legitimate theatre. Not only will the same glorious “fashions” set that needs no introduction to Aucklanders, be, if anything, made more enchanting, but the combined lighting and scenic effects will again be arranged and augmented to the greatest degree. Synchronised music will add charm to the parade of beauty, and the Regent promises that the stage presentation of the semifinalists will mark the opening of yet another page in lavish entertainment in the Dominion. The film on the programme will be the appropriate “Blonde or Brunette,” in which Adolphe Menjou has to choose between the bewitching charms of Gfeta Nisson and the ravishing beauty of Arlette Marschal. Plans for the season are now open at the theatre, phone 46-888.
