MAJESTIC

“MISS NEW ZEALAND 1927” A new record will be created tomorrow at the Majestic for magnificent stage spectacles. This will be the first, of its kind ever shown in Auckland. It is new, unique, and original. Lighting effects will be used in a manner unknown to Auckland picturegoers. This setting has been arranged as an effective background for the 16 semi-finalists in the “Miss New Zealand 1927“ Screen Star Corntest. These girls represent the pick of Auckland’s youth and beauty, and what is more, they stand for enterprise, ability and personality. Of the 16 semi-finalists, eight were chosen by newspaper vote in THE SUN and eight were chosen by the judges. They were not chosen for mere beauty of face and form but for the requisite feminine charm and acting ability to make them suitable representatives of New Zealand in the world’s great film centre, Hollywood. The public is asked to take the matter of voting for the best girl seriously. This great contest is not merely a local affair, but has international importance. It is essential that the best girl in every sense of the word goes to represent New Zealand on the world’s screen. Sixteen Auckland semi-finalists will parade on the stage at the Majestic on Friday. Voting cards will be given to patrons, who will be asked to vote for the girl they consider to be the best screen type. “The Cave. Man/’ the Warner Bros, classic of the screen, which will be screened at the Majestic Theatre tomorrow, proves that women are the same the world over and to be won by cavemen tactics at all times. Matt Moore and Marie Prevost are costarred in this film version of the gay Gil ell e Burgess story, which races along at a merry rate of speed. Moore has stepped out of his customary screen character as a poor trampled - upon worm, and tramples all over the place as Mike Smagg, a husky coal heaver. Miss Prevost is lovely to look at and skilful in her impersonation of a bored society girl, who tries to tame the cave man and succeeds in falling in love with him instead.
