ISLAND ORANGES

Waipahi’s Large Cargo After her first voyage since special electric forced-draught fans were installed the Union Company s Island steamer Waipahi arrived back at Auckland yesterday with a full cargo of fruit from Rarotonga. The Waipahi has on board some 17,000 cases of fruit, the bulk of which is oranges, although she brought about 1,000 cases of tomatoes, and a small quantity of bananas, as well. On the last voyage .the vessel made to the Islands a dispute arose with the growers, and the Islanders withheld their shipments. This time, however, everything proceeded smoothly, and the ship’s large cargo is an indication that regular supplies from this source may be looked for in the future. Leaving Rarotonga on Tuesday last the Waipahi made a fast trip, and this, coupled with up-to-date methods of storing the cargo, ensures the fruit arriving in good condition.
