“BLONE OR BRUNETTE?”
MENJOU’S LATEST FOR REGENT No more appropriate picture than Paramount’s ‘Blonde or Brunette,” starring- Adolphe Menjou, with Greta Nissen and Arlette Marchal, could have been chosen for screening during the week commencing Friday next, when the semi-finalists of the ‘‘Miss New Zealand, 1927” Screen Quest Contest will appear before Auckland audiences. Here is a chance, not only for Aucklanders to see whether they prefer the blondes or brunettes of the local girls,' but also to take a line of guidance (if possible) from that debonair fellow Menjou. who finds himself faced with the great problem of choosing one or the other. Newspapers are devoting columns of space to the blonde and brunette controversy. Books are selling into the millions. Even scientists are talking about blondes and brunettes. Now comes a picture with the provoking title. “Blonde or Brunette,” to further this agitation. In his desire to lead a quiet homo life, Menjou marries a demure country miss. Starting off on a trip, he leaves her in charge of a city friend. When he gets back, she is a different woman. No longer is she quiet or demure, but instead, has developed into the sort of jazzy, cock-tailing person he tries to keep away from. While living with a second wife,*the first lady of his heart comes to call for her mail. At the same time, the parents of Number One, ignorant of her divorce, arrive and make plans to stay for the night. What happens? Shrieks of laughter are sure to follow the hilarious scenes that lead up to the riotous climax. Eddie Horton will play during the week his own composition, “New Zealand Maid,” which has a rhythm that set all Australia swaying and which is sure to captivate Aucklanders. Special music has also been arranged for the operatic orchestra by Maurice Guttridge. ______________
