An Open Air Page For Big Girls and Boys

THE WIDENING CIRCLE

MUCH of interest lias come this week to the 'Wigwam—drawings. poems, essays and the soft pitter-patter of many moeeasined feet has sounded along the well worn path. It is a thrilling moment when newcomers answer the : aintation of “Who goes there ?” and are admitted with fitting ceremony to the “sacred circle.” Then comes the solemn business of inscribing the’pen-name on the Totem Pole. Some of the incisions already have a look quite long standing though there are many but freshly scored. Among the new ones are Black Moccasin, an out-door chief who has spent most of his life in the bush country. Little New Leaf, Paddle Carver and Silver Heel, keen Girl Guides, Travelling Bear and Many Feathers, members of the Khakiclad brotherhood, Little Scarlet Quill and Chin on Hand, keen chiefs and tdever scribes. And even as I write there is a ■rustling near the flap of the Wigwam and who should be without but Whispering Tree. And so our circle widens like the ever spreading ripples on the surface of a pool. I should like you all to read the letter which I am sending to press under the title, “From the Outer Darkness.” In spite , of my best efforts at sleuthing and tracking 1 have been unable to discover the trail of Sitting Bull, but this wanderer of the outer darkness has certainly captured the spirit of the wigwam. Then, too, we are indebted to “Thumbstick,” a London Scouter, who has forwarded the photograph and copy of a Scout Camp on the fringe of Dartmoor. there is a friendly message for scouts overseas looking from these cheerful faces. An interesting article on Totem Poles has also reached the Wigwam. It takes us to Alaska, that place of beautiful scenery. .The writer has also sent me a book of coloured plates, depicting many wonderful effects of the sun on snow and water in these enchanted regions. With which delights 1 may safely leave you. Your fraternal, REDFEATHER.
