MAORIS CUT A CHURCH IN HALF

DISPUTED OWNERSHIP (From Our Own Correspondent.) K AIT AIA, Monday. Eleven Maoris or Ratana faith w-re charged with doing mischief to a church, and behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace, at the Houbora Magistrate’s Court yesterday. They had quarrelled with some Anglican Maoris over the possession of a church at Te Kao, and, arguing that they were entitled to half of it. they cut the church in two, sawing the roof in half. They were admitted to six months’ probation, and ordered to restore the hali to its original condition within two months.
