FLEET FEET FAIL

DETECTIVE WINS RACE LOSER IN COURT CHARLES Gustav Clemm saw a detective yesterday and ran away. He did not run fast enough. Clemm appeared in the Police Court this morning and pleaded guilty to a 'charge of stealing three billiard balls valued at 30s. Chief-Detective J. Cummings said that the balls had been stolen from a billiard saloon. Clemm persuaded a 3 r outh to pawn the loot for him, but a detective interrupted the transaction. Seeing Clemm close by inquiries were about to be made, but Clemm fled, and was only captured after a long chase. “He is not fond of ■work,” said the chief detective, “and his general character is unsatisfactory.” Clemm was fined £5, in default 14 days’ imprisonment.
