Mr. H. R. Hobday left for Australia last evening by the Aorangi. Mr. W. Jones, M.P. for Marsden, is staying at the Star Hotel. Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P., left for Wellington by the Limited last evening. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister for Health, left Hamilton last night for Wellington. Mr. P. A. Lawler, New Zealand editor of "Aussie,” is at present in Auckland. Dr. Murphy, who has been spending the past month in Sydney, returned to Auckland to-day by the Marama. Mr. Walter Monk has arrived in Auckland to make arrangements for Paderewski's concerts, and also for the ••Lady, be Good,” season. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, joined the Limited at Frankton - Junction last evening for Wellington. Mr. Charles Rhodes has been reappointed to the Auckland University College ‘Council as representative of the Government. Mr. F. N. Bar tram, M.P., who returned from England by the Marama this morning, will leave for Wellington to-morrow evening. The Hon. C. T. Carrington, M.L.C., will leave for Wellington by the Limited this evening. The Rev. Father Hilly, who has been In Australia for the last five months, returned to Auckland this morning by the Marama. Mr. A. Burns, chairmail of the Auckland Education Board, left for Wellington last evening, accompanied by Mr. E. C. Purdie, secretary, and Mr. D. Dunlop, advisory inspector. Dr. S. K. Phillips was appointed to be co-examiner in the school of music by the Auckland University College Council yesterday. Dr. Phillips held tho appointment before he left for England some time ago. Mr. A. F. Ellis, Commissioner for Nauru, returned to Auckland by the Marama this morning. He has been on a business trip to Melbourne, and said that there is every hope of a good year being experienced with Nauru. Guests at the Rotary Club’s luncheon vesterday were Madame Gita Alpar, Messrs. W. H. Smith (London), A. 11. Hoyles (Invercargill), W. G. McLean (Whangarei), Robert Wallace (Napier), Tano Fama (Wellington), H. G. Allen (Melbourne), James Hogg (Dunedin), and G. W. Drayton (Christchurch). Mr. C. Lonergan, Napier, chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Referees’ Association, was welcomed to last night’s meeting of the Auckland Rugby Referees’ Association, and was instructed by the chairman, Mr. F. E. Sutherland, to convey fraternal greetings to Hawke’s Bay whistle-blowers. Professor W. Riddet, Professor of Agriculture at the Auckland University College, has been tentatively appointed director of dairy research in the Department of Scientific Research. The appointment, which is connected with the establishment of a dairy research institute, under a special management committee appointed by the department at Palmerston North, was approved by the College Council yesterday.
