“BLOT ON THE BOROUGH”

GRANGE ROAD, MOUNT EDEN DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL “Grange Road is a blot on the fine record of the borough; it is in a bad state and should be attended to immediately.” THUS Mr. R. S. Rickerby prefaced -*- his remarks to the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening, when with Mr. T. E. Whitton, he headed a deputation of ratepayers to obtain an indication of the council’s intentions regarding the permanent paving of Grange Road. The speaker urged the council to reconsider its decision against the concreting of the thoroughfare. He understood that £4.000 had been allotted for the permanent paving of the road in question and that when the ratepayers voted for the recent loan proposals they believed the road would be put down in concrete. In answer to the request for reconsideration of the council’s decision, the Mayor, Mr. E. H. Potter, informed the deputation that the original intention was to pave the road in asphaltic concrete, not cement concrete. “We propose to do that portion you represent in hot-mix bitumen and the work will be put in hand at an early date,” said Mr. Pottery
