“MISS N.Z.” SEMI-FINALISTS
REGENT’S PRESENTATION On Friday next the 16 semi-finalists in the “Miss New Zealand 1927” screen quest will appear at the Regent Theatre Realising the importance of an appropriate stage setting in order that the may be shown to full advantage before those who are asked to vote for them, the Regent has decided to use for the competitors the same brilliant setting as that in which the mannequins displayed the latent creations in the gorgeous fashion parade this week. Thus the girls will appear under the most favourable circumstances possible in New Zealand, and Aucklanders will agree that the setting is a worthy one for Auckland’s representatives in the competition that is going to mean so much to the winning girl, who will go to Hollywood the great capital of the film world, as this Dominion’s representative. In addition to the staging and lighting effects, being used fully for the semi-finalists, Mr. Maurice Guttridge will again, arrange a special programme of music to synchronise with the parade. In brief the appearance of the semi-finalists will be another beautiful show —almost, it might be said, a second fashion exhibition. Voting will take place during the week. The winning girl will be “Miss Auckland,” and the runner-up her maid of honour. There will also be offered a singularly appropriate picture, “Blonde or Brunette?” in which that suave, sophisticated gentleman, Adolphe Menjou, shows how difficult it is to choose between dark and fair. He proves that Miss Anita Loos’s declaration that “gentlemen prefer blondes” all depends on how many brunettes are about, and vice versa. The box plan for the season is open at the theatre, phone 46-888.
