“Old Ironsides” Competition Is Your Model Ready? NINE days remain for builders of model Old Ironsides” to put the finishing touches to their ships. All models must be in the hands of the Contest Editor by June 30.
Remember that the winner gets £lO and the runner-up £5. The models will be adjudged on their appearance and general detail so that competitors should keep them as neat and clean as possible. Similar contests have been running in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, where unprecedented interest was aroused and many fine models were submitted. In the Melbourne contest the judge, Vice-Admiral Sir W. Cresswell, said that the competitors exhibited greater mechanical ingenuity than a knowledge of ships. During the making of the picture “Old Ironsides” the director, James Cruze, had to reproduce an entire
war at sea. In a single large battle the frigate, “Old Ironsides,” sailed to victory over a fleet of twentyoM Tripolitan war vessels. It is arotaj this battle the plot of the story revolves. The picture will be shown at the New Regent Theatre, Auckland. The competition is open to boys up to 16 years of age.
