‘NOT A LABOUR BUREAU’
ROTARY CLUB’S WORK ADDRESSES BY CITY WORKERS “There is a tendency to look on the Rotary Club as a labour bureau, but it is not a bureau nor yet a charitable aid board,” said Mr. TV. Coltman, the chairman of yesterday’s luncheon. He declared that the club was certainly not formed for the distribution of funds to charity nor for finding work for all and sundry, although both of these labours were undertaken by members. The guests of honour at the luncheon were the Rev. Jasper Calder and Sister Esther of the City Mission and Captain Davies of the Salvation Army. Each spoke o fthe work being done to relieve distress to put the erring on the right track, to look after the orphans and to help the immigrants in the city. The Rev. Jasper Calder said that dis tress was too apparent in the city. The City Mission’s two most important institutions were the soup kitchen and the doss-house. He hoped that the doss-house was only a temporary shelter.
