COMMOTION AMONG PARIS COMMUNISTS
DRAMATIC ENTRY OF A DEPUTY A “FIGHTING” SPEECH By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright PARIS, Saturday. A commotion was caused at a'meeting of Communists in Paris. M. Cachin was speaking when in walked a Communist member of the Chamber of Deputies., M. Doriot, who had been missing. M. Doriot took off his coat, rolled up his shirt sleeves, and, amid prolonged cheering, dealt with the Chinese revolution and the syndicalist movement. M. Doriot had last been heard of in Moscow. He was -sentenced in his absence last year to 18 months’ imprisonment on a charge of antimilitarist propaganda in connection with the war in Morocco.
M. Doriot still has a right to appeal to the court. There is another prosecution pending against him for alleged treasonable conduct and speeches while he was on a visit to China. The debate in the Chamber followed the decision of M. Barthou, Minister of Justice, that M. Doriot should be arrested immediately he returned to France. This decision was nullified by the announcement that M. Doriot had exercised his right to appeal. Further action was therefore suspended.—A. and N.Z.-Suri.
