CROWN COIN AS STEEPLECHASER EASY WIN FROM BONNY RILL AT NAPIER PARK (Special to THE SUN.) NAPIER, Saturday. At the Napier Park meeting to-day, held in fine weather and on a good track, the totalisator handled £9,290, against £14,449 on tha second day last year. This year’s meeting: was confined to one day. Arataura’s Easy Win Peneus and Peshwa were the favourites for the Moteo Hack Hurdles, but the victory went to Arataura, who ran to the front at the start and was never headed. Peneus was lying second all the way, but could make no impression on the leader, who won with the greatest ease by 10 lengths. Peshwa was third 10 lengths away. Raukaponga fell, and Lombardo, Mountain Top and Ballyfarnon ran off. A Great Finish Hokioi and Merry Singer were the favourites for the Pete.ne Hack Steeplechase. Handy led most of the way, with Woden, Merry Singer and Hokioi handy. Merry Singer went to the front six furlongs from home, but immediately afterwards fell at the post-and-rail fence. Handy and Hokioi took the last fence together just ahead of Woden, and in a great finish Hokioi won by a neck from Handy, with Woden another neck away. For the Meanee Hack Handicap, Inner Harbour was backed down to a very short price, and, catching the jump-out, he led all the way. Coot, however, ran him pretty close, and was only a neck away at the finish. Greengrocer and High Heather were next. Crown Coin’s Win Waioeka Jack went out fast in the Napier Steeplechase, but fell at the fourth fence, and thereafter Bonny Rill and Kovno led till two furlongs from home, when Crown Coin took charge and won easily by three lengths from Bonny Rill, who was a couple of lengths clear of Kovno. In the Ladies’ Bracelet, Tamaterangi led all the way, to win nicely by three lengths from Perle de Leon. Brigadier Bill, who was favourite, was a fair fourth and Radiate was fifth.

A Dead Heat Royal Diadem was a good favourite in the Stewards’ Stakes. Huikai made the early running, with Road Hog and Buoyant. Mint Leaf drifted to the tail of the field, and Huikai led into the straight, but Mint Leaf made a great effort to catch him, and the pair dead-heated. Royal Diadem was three lengths away third. Then came Hathor, Gaze and Othon. Piperenzo was favourite for the Settlers’ Hack Handicap. He led for five furlongs, when Merle took charge, and eventually won easily by a length and a half from Toko, Grand National, close up, was third, and Highway fourth.
