STRAND

HUMPHREY BISHOP CO. This popular English company continues to draw full houses at the Strand Theatre twice daily. Among the many items worthy of special mention in to-night’s big programme are “Watchman” (a delightful duet by Walter Kingsley ancl John Montfort), “I'll Forget You” (Miss Thelma Trott and John Montfort), “South of Shanghai” and “O Western Wind (Mr. Kingsley). “Scratcher” Ross will present his latest absurdity, “Trial Turns,” while Arthur Hemsley, who appears here with the company for the first time, will give his impression of “A Day at the Pictures,” a screaming comedy sketch, in which he will ha\*e the assistance of Elaine Maye. He also offers his latest Lancashire comicality, “Ai Clioom,” finishing with his world-famous eccentric dance. “Scratcher” Ross and Charles Albert have a humorous sketch, “My Old Hat,” which is said to be a gem of comedy. Charles Albert is also heard in a bright song scena, in which he wifi have the assistance of the ballet. A very pretty item is the triple waltz by Alan Kitson, Marie Landon and Elaine Maye. The ragtime quintet will give several new numbers, including “Oh You California” and “Oh Miss Hanna,” while the finale. “Hey Diddle Diddle,” is a delightful medley of harmony and comedy. The first part of the picture programme includes the Metro-Goldwyn feature. “There You Are,” a comedy drama starring Conrad Nagel. Conrad Nagel’s change from romantic heroism for whimsical comedy is well chosen. “There You Are” tells a swiftly-moving story \of an eloping couple pursued by parents and police, and beset, with tangled identities, a misplaced baby, and other woes innumerable and comical. Edith Roberts portrays the main feminine part in “There You Are,” which was adapted from the novel by F. Hugh Herbert, the noted English author. George Fawcett, Gwen Lee, Phillips Smalley and Eddie Gribbon are also in the cast.
