LINESMEN’S AWARD
POWER BOARDS OBJECT INTERPRETATION CHALLENGED Electric power boards are at present considering the conditions imposed by the linesmen’s award of the Arbitration Court. The Tauranga Board on Thursday decided to protest against the conditions and working hours, and the interpretation of the award, which hole-diggers, crossarm fitters, and pole-erectors had been classed as assistant linesmen. In response to a suggestion by the Franklin Power Board it was also resolved to support the following remits for the conference:—That this conference requests the Government to set up a committee of inquiry to inquire into the workings of the Arbitration Court; that the Government be urged to exclude local bodies from the control of the Arbitration Court and make membership of trades unions by employees of local bodies optional. On Friday the Te Awamutu Power Board also agreed, to support the remits.
