WIND NOT TEMPERED TO THE SHORN LAMB
DAMAGE AND HEAVY LOSS OF STOCK IN THE COMMONWEALTH 2>i/ Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright SYDNEY, Sunday. A LANDOWNER in the Warren -*• district had 1,700 newly-born sheep frozen to death, and breeders generally in the Western districts of New South Wales have lost much stock through the extreme cold. A message from Melbourne says that heavy rain is falling over nearly the whole of Victoria. Rain is also falling over the whole of the northern agricultural areas of South Australia. A gale which reached a velocity of 70 miles an hour was experienced on Saturday over a considerable area of Western Australia. It was accompanied by heavy rain. A number of buildings were unroofed, hoardings and fences were blown down, and trees were uprooted. The Swan River rose about 3ft. The ferry steamer services and the country air services had to be suspended. Other rivers were also reported to be in flood. The storm is described as one of the worst in the history of Fremantle, where steamers had to run out extra heavy mooring-lines. Much minor damage was done at the port.—A. and N.Z.
