“DIRTY WORK AT THE CROSS-ROADS”
IT looks as if somebody in Auckland has a very perverted sense of humour, or else a deliberate attempt was made to shelve Mr. W. J. Meredith for the AucklandThamss match at Eden Park on Saturday. It is stated that an unsigned message was left at Rugby Union headquarters a day or two before the match to the effect that “Mr. Meredith would not be available on Saturday.” This was accepted in all good faith, and the Rugby Union officoals were proceeding to make other arrangements when at chance conversation with Mr. Meredith elicited the information that not only was he available, but that he had not sent any such message, or authorised anyone to do so on his behalf. What the outcome of this senseless hoax will be is not yet known, but it is safe to say that the Auckland Rugby Union would very much like to have an interview with the person responsible.
