ROTARIANS SHOULD BE CIVIC LEADERS
TRUE SERVICE ESSENTIAL nDHAT members of the Rotary movement should give practical demonstration of their adherence to the Rotary slogan of service, was the suggestion made by the Rev. D. C. Herron, at St. David’s Presbyterian Church last night, when a special service for members of the Auckland Rotary Club was held. Mr. Herron, in supporting his suggestion that members of Rotary should take their place as civic leaders, said that of the recently-elected city council, four only were Rotarians, and among the 40 defeated candidates there were but four Rotarians. “The Rotary movement,” he said, “aims at the advancement of understanding, and is working well towards this end. All nations have come to realise that the settlement of disputes by war is tragic, both for victor and vanquished. If Great Britain and America trusted each other sufficiently to combine their efforts in civilisation’s cause a great example would be set for the world.
