“Old Ironsides” Competition Many Models Promised GREAT interest among the juvenile readers of THE SUN has been aroused by the “Old Ironsides” contest and competition for the cash prizes of £lO and £5 is going to be very keen. The winning models will be used for display purposes in the New Regent Theatre, where the Paramount Picture “Old Ironsides” will be shown on July 22.
Models of the fighting frigate must be in the hands of Editor, “Old Ironsides” Contest by June 30. Similar contests have been running in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and many fine models were submitted lor the judges approval. The judge report that in these contests the main fault of the competitors was a tendency to forget to support their masts with any rigging or stays at all, so that the first puff of wind would have brought them tumbling down. Others had their masts and sails
either too large or too small for the note the above remarks and endeavour hull. Auckland contestants should to steer clear of these pitfalls. The competition is open to boys up to 16 years of age. Model builders are invited to apply to “Old Ironsides” Contest Editor, THE SUN, for further Information about the ship.
