In the House of Lords, Lord Eli- f hank moved a motion urging the 5 Government to reconsider the aboli- , i tion of the Overseas Trade Depart ment. He expressed the opinion that - the majority of overseas traders favoured the retention of this most 1 useful department, which was costing only decimal one per cent, of the overseas trade. Lord Arnold, supporting the motion, t said armaments provided the only * thing in which real economy could be 5 made. < Lord Salisbury said the Government fully realised the usefulness of ' the department, but it must economise and it could not recede from the Bud t get policy. i Lord Beauchamp, supporting the Government, said the value of the 1 ' department would be increased and j not decreased by amalgamation with the Board of Trade.
