The Log Book

PERSONAL. —Captain J. McM. McCaw, M.C., new marine superintendent in Australia for the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, arrive d in Sydney recently by the steamer Port Pirie. He replaces Captain H. Hollis, who was transferred to New Zealand some months ago, and will take up his duties immediately. Captain McCaw was for four years assistantsuperintendent for the line in London.

COAL FROM NEWCASTLE. —With a cargo of coal for discharge at Auckland, the Union Company advises that the steamer Kaiwarra, which left Newcastle last Wednesday, is due here on Tuesday.

SYDNEY STEAMERS.— CabIe advic received by the Union Company states that the passenger steamer Marama sailed from Sydney at 3 p.m. yesterday for Auckland, and the Maheno left a little later for Wellington. Both vessels are due at their New Zealand ports on Tuesday.

CARGO FOR PACIFIC COAST. Due at Auckland at 6 a.m. to-morrow from San Francisco, the Union Company advises that the motor-ship Hauraki will berth at Prince’s Wharf to discharge her Pacific Coast cargo and to load for Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. She is expected to sail again next Tuesday in continuation of her voyage.

KAITOKE FOR NEWCASTLE. The Union Company advises that they hope to despatch the steamer K&itoke next Tuesday at 5 p.m. for Newcastle, where she will probably load for Lyttelton.

WARNING TO MARINERS. The superintendent of mercantile marine advises that the master of the Waipori has reported by radio that the Marctiri light at the Hen and Chickens was out. Repairs to the light will be carried out as soon as possible.. END OF THE WAN AKA. The stripping of saleable metal from the hull of the Wanaka is nearly completed Next week it is intended to tow the hull outside the Hauraki Gulf and sink her in deep water.

PASSENGERS ON MONGOLIA. The following passengers for New Zealand are travelling by the P. and O. liner Mongolio, which was due at Sydney from London on Thursday:—Mrs. Macarthur, Mr. and Mrs. Spreull Misses Cameron (2). Mrs. Westbury, Miss Wilkinson, Mrs. Shorn ev, Mrs’ Laing, Mrs. Brown.

CARGO FROM CANADA. —The New Zealand Shipping Company has been notified that the Waleheran arrived at Montreal on June 13 to load for New Zealand. The vessel is to sail from Montreal on June 25 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin.

TAHITI LEAVES SAN FRANCISCO —Advice has been received by the Union Company that the R.M.S. Tahiti left San Francisco on Wednesday for Wellington, via Papeete and Rarotonga. The vessel is due at Wellington on July 4, and will leave the following day for Sydney.

LINER PERSIC SCRAPPED. The White Star steamer Persic, for years a regular trader between Australian ports and Liverpool, has been sold to the ship-breakers. It is reported that the price paid is £2 6,000.. She arrived at London on May 26 with general cargo from Australian ports. The Persic was built ir. 1899, and is a sister ship to the Medic, Runic, Suevic and Afric, the last-named vessel being lost during the war. STEAMERS FROM NEW YORK.— With case oil and general merchandise from New York the Commonwealth and Dominion Line chartered stdamer Maimyo is scheduled to reach Auckland on June 29. The other discharging ports are Wellington., Lyttelton. Dunedin and Newcastle. The Port Albany, which will leave New York on July 15, will discharge at Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin and probably Melbourne and Sydney.

NEW P. AND O. LINERS.— One of the large mail and passenger vessels for the construction of which the P. and O. Company recently accepted tenders, has been ordered from Alexander Stephen and Sons, Ltd.. Linthouse, Glasgow. She is to be 600 feet in length, and will be fitted with steam turbines and electric drive.

ROTORUA COMPLETING.--Tele-graphic advice received from Wellington states that the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua arrived there at six o’clock tins morning from Lyttelton. She will completed loading at Wellington, and is scheduled to sail at 3 p.m. next Tuesday for Southampton and London, via Panama.

TAIROA DELAYED. —The Shaw. Savill. and Albion Company advise that the steamer Tairoa has been delayed. She will now leave Lyttelton on Monday for Wellington, v here she will complete loading. Her departure from the latter port has been fixed for 6 a.m. on Thursday next. June 23, for London, via Montvideo and Teneriffe.

THE PORT AUCKLAND.— The C. and D. Line steamer Port Auckland, is to sail from Wanganui roadstead to-niglit for Havre and London, via St. Vincent. She will take the following passengers: Miss Swindells, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Thomas, and Mr. T. H. Palmer. Dr. Hetherington will accompany the vessel as ship’s surgeon.

CUMBERLAND SAILS TUESDAY. —At present loading at Auckland, the New Zealand Shipping Company are dispatching the Federal steamer Cumberland at daybreak on Tuesday for Gisborne, Waikokopu, Napier. Wanganui, and Wellington to complete. She is to leave the last-mentioned port on July 4 for London, A vonmouth, Glasgow, Manchester, and Liverpool, via Panama.

CORINTHIC FOR LYTTELTON.— The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company advise that the liner Corinthic will leave Napier to-night for Lyttelton, thence Wellington, to complete her loading for Home. She is expected at the latter port on June 25, and will sail finally at 6 a.m. on June 29 for Southampton and London, via Panama.

GUNBAR AT CENTRAL WHARF. —Spedding, Ltd., advise that the Gunbar is now receiving cargo at the western side of the Central Wharf. She is to leave Auckland at 10 p.m. on Monday for Gisborne and Napier, via bays. TEKOA SAILS WEDN ESDAY. —In continuation of her voyage from Liverpool, the New Zealand Shipping Company are endeavouring to dispatch the steamer Tekoa from Auckland on Wednesday next for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and New Plymouth.

PORT HARDY’S PROGRAMME.— Leaving Picton to-night, the C. and D. Line steamer Port Hardy will load at Bluff, thence Port Chalmers, Lyttelton, Wellington. Gisborne, and Auckland, for New York, Boston, and Lon.don. She is expected here on July 6, and will sail finally from this port, via Panama, on July 9. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company will be the local agents. HINEMOA LEAVES NlUE.—According to a radio mesage received by the agents, Spedding, Ltd., the Government steamer Hinemoa sailed from Niue Island at 9 p.m. on June 15 for Auckland, where she; is expected to arrive on the morning of June 22. The vessel will, after discharge here, lay up for her annual overhaul and survey at this port.

The order prohibits the board’s cargo vessels being loaded to exceed the draft as shown on the Plimsoll marks. All the vessels areto be inspected before sailing by surveyors of the Board cf Underwriters.
