BAN ON HOARDINGS
UGLY AND UNNECESSARY
Oxford civic authorities have decided that posters are “neither an improvement nor a necessity in a modern city.” They hold also that poster hoardings are ‘an obstruction to safe and convenient passage along the streets in our district."
On these grounds they have sent round to the persons concerned with posters a notice calling upon them to remove the hoardings specified on a schedule. This will affect a large number of bills on some of the very old - established posting stations in the city. The action, which is being taken under the Towns Improvement Act, 184 7, is to be contested by the Master Printers’ Association, the Bill Posting Coirrpany and certain entertainment firms who are affected.
