Suddenly they heard a scuffling in the chimney, and they all bundled back into the cupboard; but after a while, Teddy looked out and what do veu think he saw? Why Santa Claus, himself, so all the toys toppled out of the cupboard once more, and ran over to Santa and asked if there were to be any new toys. “No,” said Santa, “there is going to be *a big surprise for you my pets. Good-bye. I must hurry on my way, or I shall not get round all the houses to-night.” The toys crept back to the cupboard and fell fast asleep, and dreamt of all the lovely things that were goin* to har»P € ‘ n in the morning, when Mary, their little mistress, opened the parcels. When Mary opened the parcels in the morniig there were dresses for Susan, two suits for Teddy and two for Michael, a ribbon with a bell on for the cal and many other things for the toys’ comfort. Their ;joy was great when they found that this year they were not going to be put aside for new toys. —Margaret Anderson, Mount Eden (aged 12).
