HAMILTON’S EFFICIENT FIRE-BRIGADE

AWARDED METROPOLITAN STANDARD (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. “ANE or two, perhaps four, profire brigades in the Dominion are up to the metropoi itan standard, and Hamilton Brigade is one of them.” This unsolicited remark was made by Inspector Hugo to Mr. J. McKinnon, chairman of the Hamilton Fire Board, when the former visited Hamilton on the last occasion. Speaking at the brigade reunion held last night. Mr. McKinnon said he attached great significance to those words coming from an experienced fire-fighter, who never bestowed praise unless it was fully merited. Mr. McKinnon also made sincere comment on the very high efficiency attained by the Hamilton Brigade which, in a measure, was due to the splendid co-operation of those who comprised the unit. Other speakers testified to the services rendered by local fire-fighters, and suitable recognition of efforts was made by the presentation of medals and service bars as follow: —Two-year service bars, Superintendent A. Craig (making 19 years continuous); Foreman Davis (19 years); Deputy-Super-intendent Irvine (17 years); Foreman T. Davis (9 years); Fireman L. Davis (9 years): Fireman D. Matheson (9 years); Hon. Chaplain Archdeacon Cowie (17 years); Hon. Surgeon F. D. Pinfold (7 years). Fireman Dent was awarded a five years’ service medal, and Firemen Buckingham, Searle, Elders, Hume and McGuire certificates marking the completion of the first three years’ service. The Dickie Memorial Cup (two-man event) was won by Foreman S. Davis and Motorraan L. Russell, while H. Searle was awarded the cup for the annual one-man event. Medals accompanied the trophies.
