MINING NEGLECTED COAL SECTION BRIGHTER Mining and the more speculative scrip are being neglected and the present demand is for gilt-edged securities. which tend to firm. Banks and insurance shares continue in good tone, sales being made on a firm market. A brighter tone is registered in the coal section. Pukemiros passing this morning at 595, while Hikurangi are also in better demand. Waipas have firmed slightly, leaving the market this morning with no sellers and buyers offering 14s. The timber and woollen sections are depressed, buyers and sellers in most instances recording a big disparity l.\ quotations. Alburnias remain at about yesterday’s parity, and a sale is recorded at 4s sd. Kawaraus are weaker, though speculators, gambling on favourable prospects when the river reaches its lowest level, are still prepared to buy in up to Is 9d.
