WOMAN’S 64 CONVICTIONS SENT TO ROTO ROA | The ups downs of city life have | palled on Mary Ann Fowler. In addiItion to her everyday domestic and other concerns, the strain of 64 visits to the Police Court in 51 years has begun to tell on her. When she stepped into the dock at the Police Court this morning to hear the magistrate say, “Convicted" for the 64th time, she told him of her intention to retire to Roto Roa for 12 months. Apparently she has been to the Inebriates Home before, for she i said, “I’ll go back to the Island." j “Just drink, drink, drink! She’s all right when she’s away from It/’ was Major Annie Gordon’s opinion of Mary , Fowler. Mr. W. R. McKean did not Impose any further penalty, on the charges j of being drunk in Airedale Street, and ! using unladylike language to the constable on the way to the Police Stat ! tion. He committed her to the Island i ; for a year.
