Big Race to Terence Dillon
rE popularity of the Auckland Trotting Club’s Winter Meeting was again evidenced at Epsom this afternoon, a large attendance at Alexandra Park when the first race commenced shortly after eleven o'clock being further increased as tbe day progressed. As a result of light showers which put in an appearance early in the programme the track showed signs of holding during the running of the first few events.

First to Loch Moigh In the Mangere Handicap Loch Moigh and Hohora bracket was favourite, carrying £631, and the Day-time-Dillon Huon bracket carried £ 58(5 and Mars £ 538. They all got a.way with little delay. Loch Moigh going out of the straight ahead of Hohora, Master Huia, Bingen King, Mars, Admiral Lock and Amaris. The last named had moved up along the back, but coming up the home stretch the second time he left his feet. Mars was in charge then, just in front of Marionette, with Master Huia, Lottie Advance, Loch Moigh, Hohora and Van Rich his nearest attendants. Mars was still In tbe van when they rounded the home bond for the run home. Admiral Loch, Hohora, Loch Moigh, Uncle Bert and Wallroon being close up. Half-way up the running Mars seemed to have the race at his mercy, when Loch Moigh came with a rattle, and although Mars took up the challenge Loch Moigh beat him by half a head. Admiral Loch was four lengths away third, Florent being a length and ahalf away fourth. Then came Hohora and Master Huia. WINTER HANDICAP Of 300sovs; 2 miles. 4 APPEAL (L. Great Change, £679, Kempton, £423, Peter Boy, £350, and Appeal, £240, were the best-backed in the Winter Handicap. Appeal was quickly in the van, and he had a substantial lead over the early part, being followed past the stands by Direct Action, Peter Boy, Roma Bingen, Roez, Tiki, and Tamerlane. Appeal retained his advantage over the next circuit, Direct Action. Tamerlane, Roez, Nourmahal, and Sean Triubhais comprising the second bunch. The favourite was a long way back at this stage, after failing to go off right. Appeal was still going like a winner four furlongs from home, and he turned into the straight six lengths ahead of Tamerlane. Nourmahal, Direct Action, Sean Triubliais, Miss Leda, and Roez. Despite Tamerlane’s challenge, Appeal went on to win by three lengths from Tamerlane, with Sean Triubhais four lengths off, a head in front of Direct Action. Then came Roez, Nourmahal and Tiger Salve.

TERENCE DILLON S FINE EFFORT Eighteen started in the big race, the Campbell Handicap, which was a splendid contest, marred by an accident after the field had gone five furlongs. In a big pool most money was carried by Machine Gun £1.980. Terence Dillon £1,2.19. Terence Dillon, Doctor Dillon and Imprint were slow to go at the start. Bilk Thread got away smartly from Lord Nepean, Nelson Fame, Goldman and Dick Dillon. Before they had gone far. however, Nelson Fame had taken charge, and he led past the judge the first time from Lord Nepean. Silk Thread, Goldman, Terence Dillon, Anselm, Napland and Holly Boy. A little further on Silk Thread fell, anci Billy Sea, Dick Dillon and Machine Gun fell, and Doctor Dillon was interfered with. Nelson Fame was still in charge the next time round, and he led past the stands from Lord Nepean. Terence Dillon, Imprint. Anselm, Holly Boy, Jewel Pointer, Peter Bingen, and Cardinal Logan. Along 'ire back Nelson Fame held his position, but at the mile peg he began to weaken, and he was just in front of Terence Dillon and Imprint into the straight, with daylight back to Lord Nepean, CardinaL Logan, Peter Bingen. Kolly Boy and Peterwah. As soon as they straightened up Terence Dillon took charge, and went on to win by two lengths from Cardinal Logan, who finished well on the rails, with Imprint a length away third, a length and a half ahead oi Peter Bingen, arid Lord Nepean, Peterwah and Nelson Fame next. NAPIER PARK RACES HURDLES TO ARATAURA Press Association. GREENMEADOWS, To-day. The Napier Park race meeting was held to-day. The weather was fine, the attendance large and the course in good order. ARATAURA’S EASY WIN Per.eus and Peshwa were the favourites for the Moteo Hack Hurdles, but the victory went to Arataura, who ran to the front at the start and was never headed. Peneus was lying second all the way, but could make no impression on the leader, who won with the greatest ease by 10 lengths. Peshwa was third 10 lengths away.
