AIRMEN CLING TO WRECKAGE By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright NEW YORK, Wednesday. RTU N E has overtaken the Portuguese airman, Commander de Beires, who was attempting to fly from Genoa to Brazil. His seaplane has been lost in a storm, but the airman is safe. Commander de Beires left the Cape Verde Islands on April 28, in continuation of his flight across the Atlantic. He was approaching the Brazilian coast in the evening when his plane fell into the sea. The airman was rescued by an Italian steamer. Two sets of propellers were shipped from Pernambuco to Fernando de Noronlm, the island to which the seaplane was towed. When repairs had been effected, de Beires ara*i his three companions resumed the flight. They left Para, Brazil, for Georgetown, the capital of British Guiana, on June 7, and after flying 30 miles engine trouble compelled them to descend on to the sea. The airmen were about to resume their flight whan a huge wave engulfed the plane., and completely wrecked it. The four men hung on to the wreckage tenaciously for three hours, with the vjl aves washing over them. Then they were rescued by the crew of a fishing boat. The party will return to Europe by steamer.—A. and N.Z.
