TROTTING

BALLOT FOR PLACES MANGERE HANDICAP BEATTY ON THE RAILS With no less than 22 on the limit mark in the Mangere Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, the committee on Wednesday went into the question, ancl as the outcome of its deliberations it was decided to draw for positions at the post. The committee decided that any owner dissatisfied with the position drawn for his horse can withdraw, and full nominations and acceptance fees will be refunded. The draw was made to-day and resulted as follows: Position. Loch Moigh 10 Hohorc* 4 Golden Park 6 Concertina 18 Daytime 13 Dillon Jtiuon 5 Delavan Bill 14 Master Huia .. 8 Oliver Thorpe 22 Longford 11 Richore .. .. 9 Vestas 20 Queen Audubon 19 Mars 7 Asset 2 Beatty 1 Bingen King 12 Lottie Advance 17 Marionette 3 Kingsclere 26 Lola Recklaw .. 15 Master Cute 21 The committee wishes it to be distinctly understood that its action must not be regarded as establishing a precedent, but that it applies to the Mangere Handicap only. The reigning state of affairs was very unsatisfactory, and the committee of the club has done all in its power to find a remedy. The initiative shown is praiseworthy, and the club is to be congratulated upon the stand adopted. Twenty-two horses were in the draw*, and as there will probably be not more than 20 starters on the limit, they will go off in two rows.
